The BOLD TRUTH About More Suds Equals A Better Cleanser: Why Your Shampoo’s Suds Are Lying To You

The BOLD TRUTH About More Suds Equals A Better Cleanser: Why Your Shampoo’s Suds Are Lying To You

If you have ever felt the need for a substantial amount of foam and suds to achieve a thorough hair cleaning, you are not alone. For years, we have been led to believe that more suds equate to a deeper clean. However, the truth is that the lather you cherish may be a sensory illusion—a deceptive and misleading notion (Lynsie Galbraith, 2025).

As a hairstylist with over two decades of experience, I have observed how this concept can influence individuals to opt for harsh, stripping formulations instead of gentler, more effective ones(Lynsie Galbraith). The reality is that the efficacy lies not in the suds but in the formulation (Lynsie Galbraith).

What is truly responsible for the foaming action of your shampoo?

The satisfying foam originates from ingredients known as surfactants. These substances break down oil and dirt, enabling their removal through water. Most shampoos employ sulfates such as SLS and SLES, which generate a significant amount of foam but can also strip the hair of its natural oils, disrupt the scalp’s pH balance, and cause irritation and dryness.

Gentler alternatives, such as plant-derived cleansers (surfactants) found in La Si Mauri products, produce a softer, creamier shampoo that cleans effectively without the adverse side effects. Consequently, reduced foam can actually result in healthier, stronger hair that retains greater moisture.
